The dial counts down counter-clockwise. The ring turns coral and a triple beep plays when time's up — some browsers require a click on the page first before audio can play.
Timer vs. countdown
"Beep me in 25 minutes" — that's a timer. "How long until Christmas?" — that's the countdown. Same math, different starting point. The timer is for working sessions, pomodoros, kitchen timers; the countdown is for fixed future dates.
